Role Purpose
As a System Administrator specializing in Backup, Restore, and Archive, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining backup systems, ensuring data protection, and facilitating business continuity in the face of data-related emergencies. Your work will be pivotal in safeguarding organizational data and ensuring seamless recovery processes.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
1. Backup & Restore Systems Management
- Install and configure backup software and hardware, optimizing systems for organizational needs.
- Protect data by setting up and maintaining reliable backup systems to mitigate risks such as cyberattacks and hardware failures.
- Restore data during disasters to ensure business continuity.
- Stay updated with relevant training and technological advancements.
2. Systems Maintenance & Monitoring
- Monitor backup logs and address issues to ensure consistent data availability.
- Track system performance metrics like availability and latency, and perform necessary maintenance.
3. Systems Security & Compliance
- Configure systems securely per policies and best practices.
- Apply updates, fix vulnerabilities, and ensure systems comply with security standards.
- Conduct penetration tests and audits to maintain robust security.
4. Business Continuity Management
- Configure systems with redundancy strategies and technical recovery plans.
- Facilitate disaster recovery tests and verify backup data restoration plans.
5. Customer or End-User Support
- Provide first- and second-level support for backup and restore systems.
- Liaise with vendors and IT personnel to resolve issues.
- Deliver Root Cause Assessments (RCA) for critical incidents.
Who You Are
Core Competencies, Knowledge, and Experience
- Expertise in Commvault software installation, configuration, and management.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware preferred).
- Experience with system monitoring, operating systems (Redhat Linux, Oracle Linux, Windows), and system performance optimization.
- Knowledge of data protection principles, SDLC, and capacity management.
Technical/Professional Qualifications
- Proficiency in backup software/hardware (EMC, Commvault, Oracle ZFS, NetApp, NetBackup).
- Familiarity with Active-Active High Availability Implementation and VMware servers.
- Understanding of public/private cloud infrastructure and HP/Dell/Oracle hardware.
- At least 1 year of experience in IT system infrastructure.
