The Regional Manager TANROADS – Rukwa, on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, is seeking qualified Tanzanians to fill the position of Highway Engineer for the Upgrading of Matai–Kasesya Road to Bitumen Standard, Lot 2: Tatanda-Kasesya Section (25km). This contract-based role aims to strengthen TANROADS’ capacity to execute road projects effectively in the Rukwa Region.
The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is entrusted with maintaining and developing Tanzania Mainland’s Trunk and Regional Road Network. Additionally, it conducts axle load control operations using weighbridge scales.
Position Title: Highway Engineer – 1 Post
Entry Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A degree in civil engineering or highway engineering (registration as a civil engineer is required) is required.
- Postgraduate qualification in Highway Engineering is an added advantage.
- At least seven (7) years of relevant experience in road design and construction.
- Served in a similar capacity on at least two (2) bituminous road construction projects of comparable scale and complexity in the last seven years.
- At least three (3) years of working experience in Sub-Saharan countries.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Highway Engineer will:
- Oversee technical and administrative functions at the site.
- Supervise contractors and manage force account operations.
- Prepare and monitor project work plans.
- Ensure quality control and effective contract management.
- Prepare progress reports and process contractor invoices for payment.
- Attend site meetings and draft minutes.
- Monitor the implementation of social and environmental impact mitigation measures in coordination with TANROADS’ Environmental Specialist.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all project operations and documentation.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Project Manager (PM).
Terms of Service:
- Type: Specified one-year or longer contract, subject to project completion.
- Location: The successful applicant must be willing to work extensively in Rukwa Region.
