Joining instructions Form Five at ISIMILA Secondary School

ISIMILA Secondary School is located 26 kilometers from the town of Iringa and 10 kilometers from the main road heading towards Mbeya at a junction called Wenda (or Mlolo junction).

The school will provide transportation from Wenda to the school for students arriving within the first three days. Buses are available at the main bus stand in Iringa, with a fare of 2,500 TZS.

Important Things to Note:

 School Uniform

i. The school uniform for girls includes a green skirt fabric (number 1086), which should be box pleated. You should bring at least two skirts.
ii. White short-sleeve shirts (at least two).
iii. The hijab should be plain white, covering the chest, long enough to reach the wrist when standing, and a non-tight white tunic with long sleeves.
iv. Physical education uniform: One pair of slippers and a light blue tracksuit for girls.
v. School shoes: Black, lace-up with low heels.
vi. Two pairs of white socks.
vii. White pull-neck sweater.
viii. A blue sweater with a V-neck, not slit in the front.
ix. For casual dress: A long light blue dress with a scarf for Muslim students.
x. Two khangas.
xi. A tie that matches the skirt color.
xii. A green military-style T-shirt with a collar (form six), available near the school for 12,000 TZS.

Other Necessary Items:

i. Sufficient notebooks (Counter books, 4 quire).
ii. Two reams (A4 paper) per year (one ream per term).
iii. Relevant textbooks for the chosen specialization.
iv. Scientific calculator.
v. Mattress (2½ feet), two light blue sheets, one blanket, and sufficient underwear.
vi. Kitchenware: plates, bowls, spoons, and cups (no sharp-edged items allowed).
vii. Two small buckets (10 liters) with lids.
viii. One hoe, rake, and two brooms (for inside and outside cleaning).

Contributions:

For boarding students, the following contributions are required:

  • School Operational Contribution: 65,000 TZS
  • Caution Fee: 5,000 TZS
  • School Logo: 5,000 TZS
  • School Identification Card: 5,000 TZS
    Total: 80,000 TZS

School Rules and Regulations

The school operates under the Education Act No. 25 of 1978, as amended by Act No. 10 of 1995, and follows the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology and the Office of the President – TAMISEMI. You are required to observe the following key rules, which will be provided in writing when the student reports to school:

School Rules:

i. Respect for leaders, parents, staff, fellow students, and the community is mandatory.
ii. Regularly attend all activities inside and outside the school according to the school schedule.
iii. Full participation in evening study sessions (Preparation).
iv. Punctuality for all school activities.
v. Understand and adhere to the school’s boundaries at all times.
vi. Maintaining cleanliness of the body, clothes, and school environment.
vii. Wearing the school uniform when required.
viii. Following the school timetable at all times.
ix. Preserving school property.
x. Students are prohibited from possessing sharp objects or medicines without a doctor’s approval.
xi. Students cannot change religions or attempt to convert others at school.

Important Notes:

  • Students cannot bring mobile phones to school, and no staff member can keep a student’s phone.
  • While at school, students will be assigned a bed in the dormitory and are prohibited from sharing beds or staying in a dormitory not assigned to them.
  • Students may only leave for home with prior permission and special authorization from the Headmaster (e.g., for a funeral or illness).

Offenses Leading to Expulsion:

Students may be expelled for offenses such as:

  • Theft
  • Absenteeism for more than 90 days without valid reasons
  • Striking or inciting strikes
  • Using foul language
  • Fighting with other students, teachers, or anyone else
  • Wearing unacceptable hairstyles or growing long hair
  • Using alcohol or drugs
  • Smoking
  • Engaging in immoral behavior or same-sex relationships
  • Engaging in criminal activities or violating national laws
  • Visiting bars, guesthouses, or other inappropriate places
  • Using mobile phones within the school premises
  • Disrespecting the National Flag
  • Attempting suicide or threatening to do so
  • Willfully damaging public property.

Attachments and Important Forms:

  • The chief medical officer must fill out the medical examination form.
  • Personal Information Form regarding the student’s history and an agreement to refrain from strikes, riots, and criminal activities.
  • Parent/Guardian’s consent form acknowledging school rules and regulations.
  • Four passport-sized photographs of the student’s close family members or relatives who may visit the student, along with their contact numbers.
