Job Overview
We seek a dedicated and detail-oriented Buying Officer to join our procurement team in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This role is pivotal in managing the purchasing process, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring the efficient acquisition of goods and services.
As a member of the Standard Bank Group, you will contribute to optimizing procurement strategies while ensuring compliance with company policies and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement cost-effective purchasing strategies.
- Conduct market research to identify reliable suppliers and innovative products.
- Negotiate favorable contracts and pricing agreements with vendors.
- Oversee the procurement cycle from requisition to delivery, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Collaborate with internal departments to understand requirements and provide tailored solutions.
- Maintain comprehensive records of purchases, vendor information, and pricing.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with warehouse teams for effective stock management.
- Prepare and analyze procurement reports to assess spending, savings, and supplier performance.
- Ensure adherence to local and international trade laws and company policies.
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to secure the best value for the organization.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management.
- Proficiency in procurement software and inventory management systems.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to generate actionable insights.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
- Knowledge of market trends, pricing strategies, and supply chain best practices.
- Understanding of international trade regulations specific to Tanzania.
- Professional certification in procurement (e.g., CPSP, CIPS) is preferred.
- Membership in the Procurement and Supplies Professional and Technicians Board (PSPTB).
